#201: Why Information Overload is Holding You Back From Moving Forward
Hopping from one free guide to another, searching for the “perfect” strategy to grow your coaching business?
In the early stages of building a coaching business, it’s tempting to reach for every free resource available.
After all, with so much information online, why not make the most of it, right?
We scroll through endless blog posts, download every freebie from experts, sign up for webinars, and join countless email lists—all with the hope that one of these will reveal the “perfect” strategy to grow our business.
While these resources can be incredibly valuable, they often lead to a frustrating cycle. Instead of finding clarity, you’re bombarded with different approaches, tools, and tactics.
One guide might say social media marketing is key, while another emphasizes email funnels or paid ads. Soon, your notes are filled with advice, your browser is cluttered with tabs, and your to-do list feels endless. Each new guide seems to offer a fresh promise, so you switch from one tactic to the next, hoping this time it will work.
This cycle of jumping from one free guide to another can lead to “analysis paralysis.” With so many conflicting strategies and no clear plan, it’s hard to commit to any one path. As a result, you’re left feeling overwhelmed, second-guessing each decision, and questioning if you’re even moving in the right direction.
And here’s the reality: there is no “perfect” one-size-fits-all strategy. Every coach and business is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. True growth often requires a tailored approach, a plan that aligns with your strengths, values, and business goals.
While free resources are helpful to spark ideas, real progress often comes when you step away from the endless search and commit to a clear, focused strategy.
The Story of My Friend, the Wellness Coach
A couple of months back, I caught up with a good friend of mine who’s a wellness coach specializing in helping women navigate perimenopause without the stress of restrictive diets. She’s incredibly passionate about her work, has an amazing connection with her clients, and truly knows her stuff. But like many of us, when she first started out, she was caught in what I call the “information trap.”
She spent hours watching YouTube videos, reading blog posts, and downloading free guides—trying everything to find a way to get her business off the ground. Her browser tabs were stacked with tips, tricks, and tools, each promising to be “the one” that would make her coaching business take off. But instead of clarity, all that information left her feeling overwhelmed and stuck.
My friend eventually reached a point where she realized that all the research and DIY strategies weren’t moving her forward—they were keeping her in place.
So she made a bold decision: she invested in a coach. It was a significant step financially, but it was exactly what she needed to get clear on her niche, her message, and her next steps. Suddenly, everything started to fall into place, and her business began to grow.
Key Takeaway: Clarity and Action are Essential
If you find yourself resonating with this story, it might be time to take a step back from the research spiral. Maybe it’s time to put down the free guides, close those extra tabs, and focus on getting clarity and direction. Whether that means finding a mentor, enrolling in a program, or simply choosing a strategy and sticking with it, clarity and commitment can propel you much faster than any free information ever will.
